And THAT’S What Life is Like Sometimes!

This has been a wild end of winter/early spring it seems around here! We’ve gone from 70 degree days to snow to crazy wind…. different changes in the weather every day…all within the same week! Never know how to dress from one day to the next!

And THAT’S what life is like sometimes! My dear husband always says to the kids, “The only consistent thing in life is CHANGE.” That’s a hard lesson to learn, even for us big kids sometimes…. yet everyday life often brings this valuable lesson to a head. Sometimes due to various reasons, we’ve had kids leave …either to return home, graduating from high school here and heading to college/ work or a need to find more help than we are able to provide her. Sometimes change means new kids arriving in a home here which means the kids will need to share even more. Sometimes it can be as simple as needing to change a routine they have become used to…. like where they sit in the big vans. Helping them accept/grow through life changes is just one thing we find ourselves teaching around here.

Teaching through everyday life happens a lot around here…. sometimes big things… other times in little things.  This week while doing relief, I was preparing a big batch of baked beans for a church event. Needed 24 cans of beans opened up so divided them among the kids and assigned each one 6 cans to open…. with a hand-held can opener. Not a big deal I thought. But one asked to use the electric opener…. said no because some day they might need to use one that doesn’t require power. One tried to turn the can opener upside down to work…that didn’t go well. All in all, all cans got opened…. nobody lost a finger (although I was holding my breath at one moment!) ….and now at least I know of one more life skill they MAY have tucked under their belt!

Thank you for allowing us to have times like this to teach, to feed physically and spiritually, to guide, to love….. and prayerfully help them have change for the better.
