CROSS COUNTRY KIDS
“I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 3:14
Zeke “Z2” Age 14, 9th Grade
I love basketball and football. I’m doing cross country so I can get ready for basketball season. I am a freshman at South Shelby and I like school. My favorite class is probably Weightlifting because I like getting stronger. School in general got better for me when I finally “flipped the switch” to want to do the work.
My favorite food is Chess Cake, which is like Ooey-Gooey Butter Cake. I enjoy playing basketball outside down at the court. I started running back in June to get prepped for cross country. It was nice to earn enough trust to get a summer job push mowing the grass at Shiloh and eventually the John Deere garden tractor.

I picked Cross Country to push myself to the limits, I may be slow but that doesn’t mean I will stop running.
In my free time I love to rollerblade or to be in a musical (theater production). I love all sports, but I would have to say that Cross Country is my favorite.
When I started Cross Country, I wasn’t very good but every time I start running, I feel myself start to get better. Some of that is because of my team. They are very supportive and caring. I couldn’t ask for a better team!
Samentha “Sam” Age 17, 11th Grade
I first started XC because my House Mom said I would be good at it. Plus, it was the first ever XC middle school team at South Shelby. My goal is to break my existing school record and to place in the Top 10 at State Finals. I want to run my 5K in a time of 19:25. I have been to State two times in XC.
I run because it helps me with my stress and because I like the “runners high” I get afterwards. Cross Country has taught me to be strong when life gets hard; to keep putting one foot in front of the other.
This year I get to have my first ever Girls Team. I am excited to see what we can do as a team. My favorite memory of XC would be the lively conversations we have every year, (even) the arguments we have a teammates. I love my team because we are all like one big family.
One of my least favorite parts of cross country is running up the hills. I plan to run in college and afterwards until I can’t run any longer. In my spare time I like to read, make art…and run!
