Summer is On Hyper Drive!
Wow! Time flies when you’re having fun. Summer is half over, and in some ways just about to start. Our family has been so blessed this summer.
We started off on a five day “big” kid trip to Washington D.C. We saw all the big memorials, the Holocaust Museum, Museum of the Bible, and some of the Smithsonian Museums. The kids saw and learned a ton. Including how to use public transit, which they loved. On the way home we stopped at Gettysburg. It was a fast trip, but one I hope they remember.
We got back, and hit the ground running for the work group marathon we have this summer. We are so blessed with amazing groups that have come to help us with projects, some for over 30 years. With combining sites we had to combine groups, because we love them all. So, we embarked on a five week/9 group (some were teamed up) adventure. Wouldn’t you know several also had the biggest groups they had ever brought. By the end of summer we will have had 200+ on site to help clean, build, mulch, butcher, can, garden, fence, organize, and so much more. We are always grateful and amazed for all they get done.
As I write, Abigail and I are on an amazing get-away (in the middle of groups ) to National FCCLA (old school peeps FHA) Leadership Conference in Seattle, Washington. Abigail’s STAR event won state, and so here we are. She gets to compete against the top in the nation, while taking in Pike Place Market, The Space Needle, Chihuly Glass, and a visit to Bainbridge Island by ferry. It’s been a fun last one-on-one trip with her.
When we return it will be our last work group, and then the finish of summer. The big kids and Kirk will go to NYR, while myself and the younger three go on an adventure for their summer “vacation.”
Then it will be time for school. Abigail starts at MACC on Sunday, August 18th. Titus and Ashley will begin their senior year at South Shelby on Tuesday, along with the rest of the South and Shiloh School kids. Wednesday the Tri-County kids will go back to school. Thursday we will run, hide, and take a deep breath as we begin a new school year.
In between all the “stuff” are some of my favorite moments and memories. Kids riding bikes, swimming at the pond, kids playing with and watching the bunnies or guinea hens, and just sitting in the front yard talking about life. We have an amazing group of kids, and are so blessed in these times.
We are grateful for all the memories made this summer, and for the amazing love and support shown by our work groups. We are forever grateful to ALL our supporters, and could not do it without your love, support, and prayers.
Blessings,
The Moores
